Hop a Plane

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, and I've decided that I need a vacation.
Not like the normal family vacation that my whole family takes every year. I want it to be just me.
I mean, I'm not a loner, I love being with my family and my friends and everyone. I'm happy when I'm with people, but sometimes I feel like the only way I'll ever actually relax is if I go somewhere by myself. Everyone needs a little "me time"; that chance to be able to just think without any worries or distractions.

I want to find some isolated beach in the Florida Keys, or stand on a cliff overlooking the sea somewhere in the world.  I want to go on my own schedule and not worry about upsetting anyone if I make my own decisions.
I want to go to a famous museum and wander there all day, gazing at paintings without worrying about my sister complaining about how art is stupid.
I want to sit on a bench in a park in a big city and just people-watch (which some might consider mildly creepy).

I want to go places just to go; not to be a tourist, but a traveler. They say getting to your destination is more fun than the destination itself. I think that's true.

This post was a bit abstract, so apologies for that. I'm kind of in a dreamy state right now.

  1. ah i would like to take a vacation right now. i totally know what you mean about going alone too, when you're on vacation with other people you feel like you have to be hanging out with them the whole time (not necessarily a bad thing) and you can't spend much time alone relaxing.

also, this won't let me comment normally.

  4. Lovely post (and I totally get the people-watching thing - not in a creepy way!).

  5. YESSSS. I was just writing about this in my journal (yes, I write a journal AND blog aka I have too much time on my hands). I desperately need a fun adventure for just myself. Maybe I just need my license already..

  6. This makes so much sense. I would love an adventure or something surprisingly wonderful. I absolutely believe the journey is more fulfilling than the actual destination--I guess it's the ability to finally exhale once you reach your destination and look back on your journey with pride.

  7. I know exactly how you feel! I actually want to travel the world, not just see the sites, but experience the cultures and peoples of those places. I desperately want an adventure, to just go someplace I've never been before and soak up the atmosphere.

Though, I was considering hopping on a train and going to New Orleans. I've never ridden a train, and I think that would be fabulous fun. Except for the little detail that I'm flat broke.

Oh, well. It's a fun idea. Thanks for the great inspiration! I'll certainly write a journal entry about this soon! Have a great day!

  8. For the very first time, at the age of 30, I jumped on a plane and went to Los Angeles to visit my brother. The whole time I was like "I'm a grownup... I'm flying on my own... I can go wherever I want..none of my kids are wining... or if they are, I can't hear them half way across the country... i went to 7 beaches in 5 days." It was amazing.

So, I just looked and saw you are 16, which makes some of what I did not so practical... but the moral is the same... don't wait until you are 30!
