Veggies. Great.

I've been thinking long and hard on something.

Should I become a vegetarian?

At one point in my life, I did.  For like 3 days. I was only 13, so I guess my mom didn't take me seriously. I was pretty strong on it though. I refused to eat any meat whatsoever for 3 days, until my mom sat me down and begged me to eat a piece of chicken. After that, I basically gave up because I knew it would never go down with my mom. But I never stopped thinking about it.

I was never that big on meat anyways. I refused to eat it at all through my kid years. But I honestly really want to begin vegetarianism. I absolutely adore animals; the thought of them being slaughtered in masses to fill my stomach just seems wrong to me. My uncle in Russia has a farm and every few years when we visit, I always play with the pigs and walk with the cows. I especially loved the piglets and it hurt so bad to know that they'd be gone and eaten in a few months.

I care about animals so much. I could never wish cruelty on them. But I don't know how to convince my mom to agree to let me become a vegetarian. I haven't told her yet, but the first time I tried, she insisted that there was no other way to get protein and other necessary nutrients. Though it's more difficult, it's certainly possible. It's such a healthy lifestyle too.

Of course, I would never judge anyone who wasn't a vegetarian. Heck, I'm not even one yet. I'm hoping somehow I could convince my mother though.

  1. I know how you feel. I don't eat a lot of meat, only chicken and mince. I refuse to eat lamb because of how cute lambs are!!

  2. I respect your choice of wanting to become a vegetarian but I could never do it. I hate vegetables too much and I couldn't live without chicken or bacon lol.

  3. first off, i just wanted to thank you for the sweet comment. Long comments are always great, and make me smile! (ps I'd follow you on twitter;) )
I think that a great alternative if you don't think you can become a vegetarian, is to eat hormone free meats. This means that the animal was treated more humanely before being killed; its also much healthier for you. But more power to you if you become a vegetarian! My sister, whose twelve, has been one for almost two years and has no regrets :)
gah, look whose writing the long comment now!

  4. The only problem with vegetarianism is that it actually is incredibly difficult not to support the meat-trade at all. If you eat dairy products/eggs you are still supporting the meat industry. There are animal extracts in practically everything, and many products you wouldn't expect, from almost all shampoos/soaps/ to makeup such as lipstick and lipgloss, hairspray - the list is endless.

I am personally not a vegetarian or vegan, I simply buy organic meat that I know has to comply with animal welfare standards, because I think it is hypocritical unless you ban all animal based products from your life.

  5. I wish I had the will power to follow through with vegetarianism. I'm too weak. I still, however am very much against some of the methods used in animal slaughter.

Good luck! I hope you're able to do this! :)

  6. Well..It's all up to you isn't it? parents can be a major pain in the you-know-what, you know. lol. But if you really want to go veggie, then after a point they'll give-up trying to make you eat meat.

You won't go devoid of proteins in your body if you become a vegetarian. If you plan to go vegan then you might need to be more careful.
Veggie foods actually makes you more healthy.

But it's all up to you. :)
